CAREERS | SUMMER ASSOCIATES
A meaningful experience from day one.
As a summer associate, you’ll have the opportunity to work across practices on cases that are important and rewarding.
Our Summer Associate Program gives law students the opportunity to develop meaningful litigation experience while working on high-impact cases aimed at holding corporations accountable. Throughout the program, summer associates receive substantive assignments from attorneys across multiple practice groups. Typical projects include researching complex legal issues, drafting portions of briefs, and assisting with hearing and deposition preparation. The program is designed to provide a realistic preview of life as an associate at the firm.
Hiring Process and Selection Criteria
Each year, we typically hire six summer associates to join our Washington, DC and New York offices (approximately two in New York and four in Washington, DC). The program is open to students enrolled in ABA-accredited law schools who will have completed two years of study by the start of the program.
The program is designed to last ten weeks, but applicants seeking to spend their summers with another firm or in a public interest or public service role will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Candidates are selected based on strong academic performance, excellent writing abilities, and a demonstrated commitment to public interest work.
Applications for the 2027 Summer Associate Program will be accepted starting June 1, 2026. Applications will be considered complete once the firm receives each part of the application package listed below, including the student’s first full-year transcript. All applications must be submitted no later than June 30, 2026. We will begin reviewing applications on July 1, 2026. Hiring decisions are expected to be made on a rolling basis, and we expect to fill all positions by September 2026.
General Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a complete application package, which includes:
- Completed online application
- Cover letter
- Resume
- Law school transcript (official or unofficial)
- Writing sample
Mentorship
Each summer associate is paired with two mentors, one partner and one associate, who provide guidance throughout the program. Mentors are available to answer questions about the firm, offer insights into different working styles, and provide advice on assignments and professional development. They also help summer associates connect with colleagues to build both practical and substantive legal skills through hands-on experience and shadowing opportunities.
Get to Know Us
Beyond daily work assignments, summer associates participate in a range of professional development and networking events. Past programs have featured writing workshops, coffee breaks or lunches with attorneys across the firm, speaker series with prominent litigators, including firm alumni, sporting events in Washington, DC, happy hours, museum visits, and other social activities designed to foster connections and provide a well-rounded experience.
