The women on the third annual Forbes 50 Over 50 are founding brands used by millions, breaking world records and forging technological breakthroughs. They are proof positive that success and innovation can happen at any age.
Agnieszka Fryszman, the chair and founder of Cohen Milstein’s Human Rights practice, has been named to the 2023 Forbes 50 Over 50 list, produced in partnership with Mika Brzezinski and Know Your Value, a digital platform and community focused on empowering women to express their personal worth and achieve gender equity in the workplace. Agnieszka is one of 50 women chosen for the Impact category that recognizes changemakers who are leaving the world a little better than they found it.
While her accomplishments are many, 50 Over 50 judges surely took note that Agnieszka played a central role in the recent successful resolution of a 22-year lawsuit against ExxonMobil. The case was brought in 2001 by 11 Indonesian villagers who alleged that they or their family members were kidnapped, tortured, sexually brutalized, or murdered by the oil giant’s security force. Agnieszka had been lead counsel for these villagers for two decades, overseeing a small but dedicated legal team in the fight to obtain justice against an aggressive and deep-pocketed defense. In May of this year, Agnieszka secured a life-changing settlement for the victims, bringing their ordeal to a close. From their remote village, they wept with relief when she shared the news. It was yet another highlight in a year that also included the release of “Hotel Rwanda” hero Paul Rusesabagina – Agnieszka wrote the brief that helped pave the way for diplomatic negotiations to free him.
