The recent mass shooting in the Atlanta area, which claimed the lives of eight individuals, including six women of Asian descent, marks a dark point in our nation’s history. This unthinkable tragedy takes place in the broader context of a deeply disturbing rise in violence, harassment, intimidation and inflammatory rhetoric against the Asian American community that has too often been ignored or dismissed. These recent events must reinforce our commitment to ensuring that racism and hatred of any kind are not tolerated.
