A recall has been issued of approximately 62,155 Volkswagen Tiguan vehicles manufactured from July 2007 through June 2011.  Certain 2009-2011 vehicles may contain an auto defect that can cause the vehicle's exterior lights circuit to melt. In the event this occurs, there may be a partial loss of exterior lighting that can diminish visibility and increase the risk of a crash.

This recall is expected to begin sometime in December 2013.  Dealers will inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge.  Owners may contact Volkswagen directly at 1-800-893-5298 and reference safety recall no. 97Z9/2V.  Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 13V569000.

Owners are encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov with any questions or concerns surrounding these or any other recalls or safety campaigns.
