Victoria Nugent is not your typical law firm partner. Sure, she has a thriving practice in the public client group of litigation powerhouse Cohen Milstein, but her interests are bigger than just her practice. That’s why in February of 2015, Tory launched The Directrice — a style blog for those in more staid industries like the law. On top of her demanding legal practice, Tory updates the blog twice a week with the help of her photographer / husband, Michael Chorost.

In this week’s episode of The Jabot, Kathryn Rubino talks with Tory about the best ways to incorporate color and style into your professional life. She embraces bold, yet professional fashion choices — she even wore an orange suit to interview at the firm she’s now partner at. And she’s a true believer that law firms don’t have to be a place where style goes to die.

The Jabot podcast is an offshoot of the Above the Law brand focused on the challenges women, people of color, LGBTQIA, and other diverse populations face in the legal industry. The name comes from none other than the Notorious Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the jabot (decorative collar) she wears when delivering dissents from the bench. It’s a reminder that even when we aren’t winning, we’re still a powerful force to be reckoned with.
