Cohen Milstein is proud to be a champion of product safety. We actively track the latest in product safety news and recalls in the United States.

Children’s products are particularly important to us, as they often go overlooked and don’t receive extensive media attention.  As we approach the holidays and enter a new year, we want to remind you of the importance of product safety, specifically as it relates to children’s toys, furniture, sleepers, and other products we purchase and use to keep our children warm, safe, and healthy.

In 2019, we saw several large recalls of children’s products (listed below). In 2020, we look forward to working together with you to ensure that manufacturers of children’s products are making safer, more durable products.

Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles: In August 2019, Contigo recalled approximately 5.7 million Kids Cleanable Water Bottles due to risk of choking. The water bottle’s clear silicone spout can detach, posing a choking hazard to children.

Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleepers: In April 2019, Fisher-Price recalled nearly 4.7 million Rock ‘n Play Sleepers due to reports of infant fatalities. Since the product was introduced in 2009, more than 30 infant fatalities have occurred after the infants rolled on their stomachs or sides while unrestrained.*

Ridgewood Dressers: In October 2019, Ridgewood recalled about 1 million Belmont Four-Drawer Dressers due to tip-over and entrapment hazards. If the dressers are not anchored to the wall, they can tip-over and/or trap children, potentially causing injury or even death.

Forky 11” Plush Toys: On July 8, 2019, Disney recalled approximately 80,000 Forky 11” Plush Toys. The “googly” plastic eyes on the toy can detach, posing a choking hazard for young children.

Fisher-Price Children’s Power Wheels Barbie Dream Campers: In February 2019, Fisher-Price recalled about 44,000 Children’s Power Wheels Barbie Dream Campers. The electric toy car can continue to run after the pedal has been released, which presents an injury hazard.
