A multistate pain management group and its affiliate agreed to pay $3.8 million to settle allegations they fraudulently billed Medicare and other government programs for services not rendered.
The Department of Justice announced April 25 that Virginia-based Physical Medicine Associates Ltd. and its parent, National Spine & Pain Centers LLC, agreed to settle false claims allegations initially brought by a former employee, Michelle O’Connor.
The clinics, which didn’t admit to any wrongdoing, will pay $3.29 million and reimburse another $475,000 in litigation expenses to the whistleblower’s attorneys.
