A contractor to the state government that provides Medicaid-funded “direct care” to elderly and the disabled was sued in Pennsylvania federal court on Thursday for allegedly failing to pay overtime wages to thousands of home care workers.
The suit accuses Public Partnerships LLC, a subsidiary of Boston-based Public Consulting Group, of violating the Fair Labor Standards Act and Pennsylvania law by denying these workers time-and-a-half pay when they exceed 40 hours per week.
“Every day, tens of thousands of workers in Pennsylvania call upon their compassion and dedication to tend to some of our society’s most vulnerable members,” Christine E. Webber, partner at Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll and lead counsel on the case, said in a statement. “Yet, despite the critical role they play, their employer has continued to deny them the fair compensation promised to them by law. We look forward to pursuing justice for these incredible men and women and defending the value of their vital contributions to our community.”
