“HHS Conscience Division Data Sought by Reproductive Rights Group,” Bloomberg Law
October 15, 2019
The Center for Reproductive Rights wants information from the U.S. Health and Human Services Department about the operation of its Office for Civil Rights, and particularly about funding for its new Conscience and Religious Freedom Division.
The nonprofit advocacy group sued the agency in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Oct. 15, seeking to compel the HHS to comply with its Freedom of Information Act request for data about how it’s funding and staffing the new division tasked with defending religious liberty.
This information is “vital to the effective enforcement of the civil rights protections entrusted to” the OCR, the complaint said.
