A massive recall has been issued by several manufacturers due to an airbag defect that has the potential to cause significant harm to vehicles occupants. The recall is due to a safety defect in the frontal air bag which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking and potentially cause enhanced or catastrophic injury to occupants. Over 826,000 are included in the recall class.
