General Motors has issued a recall of approximately 118,800 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles for failure to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 113 regarding the “Hood Latch System.” Certain 2010-2012 vehicles manufactured from November 9, 2009 through August 28, 2012 may be missing the secondary hood latch. If the primary hood latch is not engaged, the hood could open unexpectedly, obstructing the view of the driver while the vehicle is in operation and increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall is expected to begin on or around January 17, 2013. Dealers have agreed to inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC at 1-866-996-9463 and reference safety recall no. 12319. Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V594000.

Owners are encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov with any questions or concerns surrounding these or any other recalls or safety campaigns.
