General Motors has issued a recall of approximately 3,896 vehicles due to a frontal airbag auto defect. Certain 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze, and Chevrolet Sonic vehicles are included in the recall class. The driver side frontal air bag has a shorting bar which may intermittently contact the air bag terminals. If the bar and terminals are contacting each other at the time of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal airbag, that airbag will not deploy, increasing the driver's risk of catastrophic injury.

This recall is expected to begin on or around February 13, 2013. Dealers have agreed to inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact General Motors directly at 1-800-521-7300 and reference safety recall no. 12261. Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 13V023000.

Owners are encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov with any questions or concerns surrounding these or any other recalls or safety campaigns.
