Ford has issued a recall of approximately 196,667 Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles due to an auto manufacturing defect that can prevent the third row seat from fully latching into a seated position. Certain 2004-2007 vehicles manufactured from March 24, 2003 through November 7, 2006 and equipped with a third row seat are included in the recall class. The third row stowableseat can experience corrosion and structural degradation at the seat anchor mechanism mounted to the rear wheel wells. In the event of an accident, a seatback failure can significantly increase the risk of catastrophic injury.

This recall is expected to begin on March 27, 2013. Dealers have agreed to inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge. Owners may contact Ford directly at 1-866-436-7332 and reference safety recall No. 13S01. Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 13V081000.

Owners are encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov with any questions or concerns surrounding these or any other recalls or safety campaigns.
