Ford has issued a recall of approximately 12,569 vehicles due to an auto defect that affects the child safety locks.  The following vehicles are included in the recall class:   2013 Ford Explorer, Taurus, and Lincoln MKS vehicles manufactured November 29, 2012 through December 12, 2012.  The child safety locks in certain vehicles may switch from an active to de-active position without notice, increasing the risk of a child opening the door while the vehicle is in operation.   An occurrence like this can pose a great risk to the safety of a child inside the vehicle.  Parents are urged to pay extra attention when opening and closing doors to ensure the locks are active until the affected vehicle has been serviced.

This recall is expected to begin on August 5, 2013.  Dealers will inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge.  Owners may contact Ford directly at 1-866-436-7332 and reference safety recall no. 13S07.  Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 13V270000.

Owners are encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov with any questions or concerns surrounding these or any other recalls or safety campaigns.
