BMW has issued a recall of approximately 42,080 vehicles due to an air bag defect.  The following vehicles are included in the recall class:  2002-2003 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi sedans; 325Ci and 330Ci coupes and convertibles; 325iT and 325xiT Sports Wagons; and M3 coupes and convertibles. The passenger side frontal air bag may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. If this occurs during an accident, metal fragments may strike vehicle occupants resulting in serious enhanced injuries.

This recall is expected to begin sometime in May 2013. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and perform the necessary service free of charge.  Owners may contact BMW directly at 1-800-525-7417. Additional details can also be found by referencing NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 13V172000.

Owners are encouraged to contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov with any questions or concerns surrounding these or any other recalls or safety campaigns.
