Cohen Milstein Special Counsel Suzanne M. Dugan co-hosted a new members dinner on May 19, 2013 in connection with the Annual Meeting of the American Law Institute. The new member dinner kicked off the Institute’s 90th Anniversary Annual Meeting, which will took place May 20-22, 2013 in Washington, D.C. Ms. Dugan's co-host was Judge Christopher Klein, Chief Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of California.
The American Law Institute is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law. The Institute drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education. ALI has long been influential internationally and, in recent years, more of its work has become international in scope. By participating in the Institute's work, its distinguished members have the opportunity to influence the development of the law in both existing and emerging areas, to work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics, to give back to a profession to which they are deeply dedicated, and to contribute to the public good.
Ms. Dugan is an elected member of ALI. ALI membership is a distinct professional honor, and the number that can be admitted is limited to 3000 (not including life, honorary, and ex-officio members). The elected membership consists of eminent judges, lawyers, and law professors from all areas of the United States and from many foreign countries, selected on the basis of professional achievement and demonstrated interest in improving the law. Ms. Dugan participates in several of ALI’s Members Consultative Groups, including Principles of Government Ethics.
