On July 11, 2014, a class action lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina against a group of bleach manufacturers. The entities named in the litigation are: Oltrin Solutions, LLC, JCI Jones Chemicals, Inc., Olin Corporation, and Trinity Manufacturing, Inc. The antitrust lawsuit alleges the Defendants violated federal antitrust laws in a scheme to limit competition in the North Carolina and South Carolina bulk bleach market.
The United States Federal Trade Commission launched an investigation into possible anti-competitive behavior in 2013. The inquiry uncovered a market allocation agreement between dominant competitors in the bulk bleach market; Oltrin Solutions, LLC and JCI Jones Chemicals, Inc. The agreement enabled the companies to monopolize the market and artificially inflate prices for customers.
The class members in this litigation are comprised of direct purchasers of bulk bleach from one or more of the Defendants in North Carolina and South Carolina between March 2010 to present.
