Richard E. Lorant is Director of Institutional Client Relations at Cohen Milstein. In his role, Mr. Lorant works with the attorneys to develop and maintain lasting, mutually productive connections with public pension funds and other institutional investor clients. He also serves as a firm representative in the institutional investor community and as a liaison to help its attorneys deliver responsive and client-centric service.
Mr. Lorant works primarily with the Securities Litigation & Investor Protection Practice Group in support of its mission to help shareowners recover money lost due to corporate wrongdoing in the United States and abroad. He also connects investors to lawyers in the Antitrust and Ethics & Fiduciary Counsel practice groups.
Mr. Lorant, who joined Cohen Milstein in 2015, brings to his role a broad and varied experience, including a long career as a journalist in the United States and abroad; several years as a public relations professional for financial services companies; and more than a decade as marketing director at a nationally recognized law firm.
Prior to coming to the Firm, Mr. Lorant served as the Director of Marketing and Client Relations at a Boston-based law firm with a nationally recognized securities litigation practice. There he helped shape and execute the business development program, and built relationships with dozens of pension funds throughout the country. Mr. Lorant also oversaw creation of the firm’s marketing materials, managed two redesigns of its website and edited its newsletter, among many other duties.
Before becoming a legal marketer, Mr. Lorant was an account manager for a public relations firm specializing in financial service industry clients. Prior to that, he worked for 15 years as a news reporter and editor, including more than a decade with The Associated Press. He spent eight years in Spain, five as an AP foreign correspondent in Madrid, where he covered breaking news, business, government and sports from 1987 to 1992. In 1994, he earned an Associated Press Managing Editors award for an in-depth article on a police shooting of an unarmed civilian in Oakland, California, and its impact on the victim’s family and the community.
A longtime member of organizations devoted to investor education and advocacy, Mr. Lorant served on the National Association of State Treasurers Corporate Affiliate Advisory Board from 2009 to 2011. He makes presentations to pension fund boards and investor groups, most recently moderating panels at meetings of the National Council on Teacher Retirement and the International Financial Litigation Network.
Mr. Lorant earned a B.A. in Communications Studies from Oberlin College. He speaks fluent Spanish and has a working knowledge of Italian and French.
