Council of Institutional Investors Names Cohen Milstein Partner Carol V. Gilden to New Advisory Council

Carol V. Gilden, a Partner at Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC and member of the Firm’s Securities Fraud Practice, has been named to the new Advisory Council of the Council of Institutional Investors (CII).
CII, a nonprofit association of pension and other employee benefits funds, endowments and foundations, is a voice for effective corporate governance and strong shareholder rights.  Gilden is the only representative of a plaintiffs law firm appointed to the group’s new 15-member Advisory Council.
“We congratulate Carol on her appointment to this prestigious organization,” said Steven J. Toll, Cohen Milstein Managing Partner and Co-Chair of the Firm’s Securities Fraud Practice.  “Her vast extensive experience in protecting the rights of investors will serve the Council of Institutional Investors well with its focus on corporate governance and strong investor protection.”
“I am honored that the Council of Institutional Investors has appointed me to their new Advisory Council,” said Gilden. “I look forward to working with the other members of the Council on helping CII educate its members, policymakers, and the public about the importance of corporate governance, shareholder rights and other investment matters.”
Gilden represents public pension funds, Taft-Hartley Benefit Funds, private pension funds, and high net worth individuals.  Earlier in her career, she served five years as an enforcement attorney in the Securities and Exchange Commission, Midwest Regional Office.  In recent years, she has served as lead counsel and on the plaintiffs’ Executive Committee on such high-profile cases as MF Global Securities Litigation, Global Crossing Securities Litigation, and the Merrill Lynch & Co. Research Reports case.
An author, frequent lecturer and national media commentator on securities litigation, shareholder rights and regulatory reform, Gilden is Vice President of the Institute for Law and Economic Policy, a think tank established to preserve and enhance access to the civil justice system by investors and consumers, and is Past-President of the National Association of Shareholder and Consumer Attorneys, the trade association for securities class action attorneys.  She repeatedly has been selected as an "Illinois Super Lawyer" (2005-2012) by Law & Politics.
Gilden is admitted to practice in Illinois, the federal district court for the Northern District of Illinois, the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
