Litigation Associate (Public Client practice)

Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC is one of the country’s premier class action firms.  With approximately 80 attorneys and five offices, we specialize in groundbreaking and high-stakes litigation concerning Securities Fraud, Antitrust Violations, Civil Rights and Employment, Consumer Protection, Employee Benefits, Qui Tam/False Claims Act, International Human Rights, Catastrophic Injury and matters representing state attorneys general in civil law enforcement investigations and litigation.

The DC office is accepting applications for a Litigation Associate in the Public Client Practice.

The Public Client Practice offers a unique opportunity to do public-sector work in a private-sector setting.  We exclusively represent government entities as outside counsel in high-stakes cases.  State attorneys general comprise our largest client base, though we also represent other government entities.  Our government work focuses on civil enforcement investigations and litigation, most commonly in consumer, financial and health care fraud.  This position is an ideal match for a litigator with a passion for public service.

Applicants should have a minimum of 2-3 years of litigation experience in federal, state, or local government, a public-interest firm or advocacy group or other type of law firm.  Applicants must be able to: take a substantial role in researching and writing briefs; play a strong supporting role in discovery; and supervise paralegals in litigation-related tasks. A strong academic background with excellent writing skills is required, as is the ability to manage and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

Cohen Milstein is an equal opportunity employer committed to promoting a diverse workplace.  We strongly encourage women and minority candidates to apply.

To apply, please send a cover letter, resume and law school transcript via email to careers@cohenmilstein.com.  Please indicate “Associate (Public Client)” in the subject line.

Associate (Employee Benefits)

Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC is one of the country’s premier class action firms.  With approximately 80 attorneys and five offices, we specialize in groundbreaking and high-stakes litigation concerning Securities Fraud, Antitrust Violations, Civil Rights and Employment, Consumer Protection, Employee Benefits, Qui Tam/False Claims Act, International Human Rights, Catastrophic Injury and matters representing state attorneys general in civil law enforcement investigations and litigation.

Cohen Milstein’s Washington, DC office seeks an associate with litigation experience, superb academic credentials, excellent writing and analytical skills to work in the Employee Benefits practice group.  Prior experience in employee benefits is not required.

The Employee Benefits practice group primarily represents employees or fiduciaries in litigation concerning a variety of benefits including traditional pension plans, 401(k) plans, ESOPs, severance benefits, COBRA and more.  The challenged conduct frequently includes wrongful denial of benefits, violations of ERISA, questions of ERISA coverage, fiduciary breaches, as well as, discrimination.  As a number of cases involve complex financial transactions or issues, comfort with financial issues is important.  As many benefit cases are governed by both ERISA and the IRC, comfort with statutory interpretation is also necessary.  As this is a nationwide practice, travel will be required.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package and the opportunity to work with an exceptional team of lawyers with a tireless determination to serve our clients’ interests and pursue justice in a manner that provides meaningful relief.  The Employee Benefits group offers the opportunity to work on behalf of clients who are seeking to protect or obtain their hard-earned benefits and who will often express gratitude for your efforts.  You will engage in interesting work that may not be understood even by other attorneys (and as a result, they will likely conclude you must be smart).

Cohen Milstein is an equal opportunity employer committed to promoting a diverse workplace.  We strongly encourage women and minority candidates to apply.

To apply, please send a cover letter, resume and law school transcript via email to careers@cohenmilstein.com.  Please indicate “Associate (Employee Benefits)” in the subject line.
